Minister's Page
Hello!
My
name is Reverend Sharon Dittmar, and I am the minister at First Unitarian
Church. I came to First Unitarian Church in 1998, after serving for a year
as the interim minister at the Northern Hills Fellowship (UU), also in
Cincinnati. As minister, I see myself as both leader and partner in
congregational efforts to live our UU faith in a complex world.
I
am a combination of Midwesterner and New Englander, having lived in Ohio,
Illinois, and Massachusetts. I was raised as a Presbyterian. My evolution
from Presbyterian to Unitarian Universalist (with a brief stop at the United
Church of Christ) took over a decade. I entered Harvard Divinity School in
1993, and graduated with a Masters of Divinity in 1997. While at Harvard, I
focused on world religions, religious thought and experience, UU history and
polity, and social justice. These areas still influence my passion for
ministry, as well as Sunday morning services.
First Church is a uniquely diverse, mature, and respectful congregation.
While I am a theist, the majority of members consider themselves humanist.
Together we enjoy learning from and supporting one another, challenging our
intellect and emotions, and finding sustenance in the shared values
clearly stated in the UUA Purposes and Principles.
I hope that you will visit us, or contact us with any questions.
The
best times to contact me are during office hours (see home page), although I
also schedule appointments for evenings and Sundays.
Welcome! I hope you will come for a visit and stay for the journey.
