Purpose
“Christmas is a very lonely time to be in jail. Over 2,000 men, women and
children are incarcerated in Hamilton County alone. We want to offer these
men and women an expression that they are not forgotten, nor are they
separated from the love of God. With over 2,000 inmates (plus Corrections
Officers), we need a minimum of 750 dozen cookies.”
-
Rev. Jack Marsh, Associate Director of Justice
Chaplaincy
Background
The
Holiday Cookie Project is a way that we can join with other local faith
communities in providing a small, comforting service to people in jail.
It is a way for individuals and families to put into action our first and
second principles: belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every
person, and justice, equity and compassion in human relations. Our
participation in the interfaith project began in 2005.For a few weeks in
December, we collect donations of cookies at church. Then we deliver them
to Rev. Jack for distribution.
Current Activity
This
project is conducted annually in December and is a lovely family
involvement social justice project. The following recipe is used.
