OVERVIEW
The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee is the human rights arm of
our movement. UUSC works to advance justice worldwide by combining human
rights education and advocacy in the United States with direct support for
grassroots initiatives.
BACKGROUND
In the summer of 2003 two First Church adults and five youth participated
in a summer work study camp in North Carolina where they learned about the
concerns of immigrant farm workers. Pursuant to that they became involved
with the local Farm Labor Organizing Committee. Many First Church members
supported the Mt. Olive and the Taco Bell Boycotts until successful
contracts were signed resulting in improved pay and working conditions for
farm workers in North Carolina and Florida.
