METROPOLITAN AREA RELIGIOUS COUNCIL OF CINCINNATI (MAARC)

Purpose

The Metropolitan Area Religious Council of Cincinnati includes 16 religious organizations (Judicatories), including Unitarian-Universalists. It operates by consensus. It works together on a few, agreed-upon, local social concerns to make life better for people in metropolitan Cincinnati. On the second Wednesday of the month there is a Delegates Council at noon at St. Peter in Chains with a speaker on different issues.

Background

Unitarian Churches in Cincinnati have one common representative on MAARC.  For many years this position was held by First Church Member Alice Schneider.  During 2005-2007, MAARC identified the needs of youth in the inner city to be its top priority.  With the leadership of Roy Euvrard, First Church member, we undertook the establishment of A-TOP-Avondale Teen Outdoor Project- which developed three activities for Avondale and First Church teens. We also provided funds for the establishment of a Youth Peace Camp which was held in the summer of 2007.

Current Activity

We will consider the specific new areas of concern chosen by MARCC in the fall and determine how we may work in support of them.
