PEOPLE WORKING COOPERATIVELY

Purpose

People Working Cooperatively is a Cincinnati organization whose purpose is to keep homeowners who have low incomes and often other disabilities, safely and with reasonable comfort in their homes. Part of PWC is also devoted to energy efficiency with testing, insulation, repairs and replacement to conserve energy and reduce costs for homeowner. They are funded through donations and by various governmental communities.

The staff, in addition to support and administration, consists of professionals in the various housing trades--plumbers, electricians, carpenters etc. Work is sometimes contracted out. Also volunteers do much of the work.

Twice a year PWC mounts large volunteer efforts, recruiting thousands of individuals and teams from churches, businesses and other organizations. In the fall this is called PREPARE AFFAIR involving mostly leaf raking and gutter cleaning. In the spring it is REPAIR AFFAIR with all sorts of home repairs.
