We Welcome All to First Unitarian Church!

Picture
We are a caring Unitarian Universalist community in the centrally located Avondale neighborhood of Cincinnati. We meet in a warm and graceful building, built circa 1889, for worship services that nourish spiritual growth and learning throughout life. A self-governed congregation, we are an active force for personal and societal growth through a variety of activities that serve our members and our community.

Established in 1830, we have been an important part of the history of Cincinnati ever since. We strive to carry on the tradition of First Unitarian members throughout the years who have championed individual and civil rights, led educational and civic reform, and worked to promote justice in daily affairs. We seek to be Radically Inclusive, and are constantly looking for ways to extend our welcome to all people.

Upcoming Sermons:

November 2
"Stillness: A Door Into the Temple"—Dr. Alexander Riegel, Developmental Minister
In her book, “A Thousand Mornings,” Mary Oliver, a true, modern, mystic poet, drops another spiritual nugget into our laps: “Stillness. One of the doors into the temple.” Join us as Dr. Riegel discusses the means by which we discover the spiritual gold within us.

November 9
"Shame on You!"—Dr. Alexander Riegel, Developmental Minister
Shame is a powerful force—a two-edged sword that can be used for good or evil. Indeed, shame is one of the greatest human motivators there is. Have you every shamed someone? Have you ever been shamed by someone? Even more, have you ever shamed yourself? (Calling Dr. Freud!)

November 16
"Marcus Aurelius’ Stoic Wisdom for Modern Life"—Dr. Alexander Riegel, Developmental Minister
Marcus Aurelius was a Roman Stoic philosopher. Stoic philosophy is a humanistic philosophy rooted in astute psychological insight and application. Dr. Riegel will reflect on a number of Aurelius’ philosophical prescriptions for living a stoic life.
