Rites of PassageChild Dedications
Services of Child Dedication are usually performed by our minister during a Sunday morning worship service, ordinarily for children aged three and under but also for older children as requested. In this service, the congregation pledges to support the spiritual formation of the child, though unlike in creedal baptism, the family does not commit to teaching their children a specific belief. Weddings for All At First Unitarian, we rejoice in the union of all loving couples. Our sanctuary offers a lovely setting for services, although our ministers sometimes join couples in private homes or outdoor ceremonies. If the service is to be held at the church, we recommend scheduling your wedding date at least six months in advance to ensure the availability of the sanctuary. Due to the number of requests, not all services for non-members can be accommodated. Contact the Operations Manager at [email protected] for more information. Celebrations of Life (Memorial Services) We rarely think of death as a rite of passage, but it is the final step in a life that has progressed through other rites of passage to its completion. For this reason, Unitarian Universalists honor death with a celebration of the life that was lived. The life celebration naturally will include the recognition of grief, but even more, it acknowledges the gift of life and honors the deceased as a gift to their loved ones and to the wider world. Loved ones are intimately involved in planning a celebration of life, from selecting music and readings to speaking at the service, often as part of the eulogy. Because of this personalized planning, we often hear how meaningful this experience is for people. |
